Haiti - FLASH : Haiti last in the Caribbean and 2nd worst corrupt country in the Americas (2023)

According to the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) published Tuesday by Transparency International, widespread impunity and the lack of independence of the judiciary place Haiti the 2nd most corrupt country in the Americas after Nicaragua, first in the Caribbean in terms of corruptionand 173rd in the world out of 180 countries.

The CPI ranks 180 countries and territories based on the perceived level of corruption within their public sector on a scale of zero (high corruption) to 100 (no corruption).

Haiti fell 2 places on the corruption perception index with a score of 17/100 and ranks 173rd out of 180 countries tied with North Korea, Equatorial Guinea and Nicaragua (171st in 2022 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38749-haiti-corruption-index-2022-haiti-171st-in-the-world-tied-with-north-korea.html ) and 168th in 2021 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-35857-haiti-flash-haiti-the-most-corrupt-country-in-the-caribbean.html with a score down 5 points less since 2017.

In comparison, our Dominican neighbors rank 113th in the world with a score of 35/100 (advanced by 10 places compared to 2022 and 15 places compared to 2021).

1st Denmark score 90/100

2nd Finland score 87/100

3rd New Zealand score 85/100

TOP 3 worst corrupt countries in the world:

178th Syria score 13/100

179th Venezuela score 13/100

180th Somalia score 11/100

For the twelfth consecutive year, more than two-thirds of countries in the index have a score below 50, a sign of serious corruption problems.
