Haiti - FLASH : Haitians still excluded from American H-2A and H-2B visas

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under Presidency Biden, recently authorized several thousand additional temporary worker visas for citizens of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador for the year 2021.

These H-2A and H-2B visas, which allow US employers to bring foreign workers to the United States to meet critical and temporary farm and non-farm labor needs, are granted to a list of beneficiary countries, list in which Haiti is excluded for the 4th year in a row.

Recall that Haiti, which had integrated in 2012 under the Obama administration the list of countries having access to these two types of visas, had been excluded from this list in 2018 by decision of the DHS under the Trump administration, which had ruled that granting this type of visa to Haitians was no longer in the interest of the United States because of the too high number of refusals, frauds and abuses, in particular of the prolonged illegal stays beyond the fixed deadlines.

It seems that the Biden-Harris Administration did not consider it appropriate to review the American position and to reinstate Haiti in the list of countries benefiting from this type of Visa…
