Haiti – Investigation report : Full details of the escape from the prison of Croix-des-Bouquets revealed
The very detailed 22-page investigation of the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH) into the bloody escape of February 25, 2021 at the Croix-des-Bouquets prison reveals that the means deployed and the timing involved a very large planning in great detail and everything suggests that the operation was to free Arnel Joseph, the Leader of the Gand of Village de Dieu.
The investigation confirms that :
32 people were killed, including the 28 on the day of the escape. The head of the prison was killed in front of the barrier and 6 inmates, inside the penitentiary itself
21 other detainees were systematically tracked down by agents of the specialized units of the PNH and were summarily executed in the streets of Croix-des-Bouquets.
The next day, Arnel Joseph was killed in Estère, in the department of Artibonite https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-33115-haiti-flash-arnel-joseph-killed-more-than-400-detainees-on-the-run-at-least-25-dead.html and 3 other inmates succumbed to their injuries at the HUEH.
18 people were injured among them, at least 3 staff members assigned to the prison. The RNDDH underlines contrary to what has been broadcast in some media that no loss of human life has been recorded in the community of Croix-des-Bouquets. All the bodies seen in the streets were detainees, chased by the police and coldly shot.
433 detainees escaped. Only 87 were apprehended.
346 detainees are still on the run, which does not seem to worry too much the police authorities.
In addition, we should mention that the General Inspectorate of the National Police of Haiti (IGPNH) announced that the investigation into the escape to the prison of Croix-de-Bouquets is about to be completed. Provisional measures were taken after their hearings against around 30 police officers who were on guard at the prison on February 25 during the escape.
