At around 5:00 a.m. Monday a 45-foot sport fishing boat ran aground at Delray Beach, just off Gulf Stream Park, across from the St. Andrews Club.
A US border patrol attended the scene after being alerted by a distress call to the US Coast Guard before the boat reached shore. 29 illegal Haitian migrants in an irregular migratory situation were arrested. Boynton Beach, Delray Beach and Ocean Ridge Police also responded to the call.
Coast Guard “William Flores” was dispatched from Lake Worth Inlet station and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter took off from Coast Guard station in Miami, but the boat ran aground on the coast before the start of research.
Two Haitians including a pregnant woman were transported to the local hospital for treatment, said Peter Daniel, Spokesman and Division Chief a.i. for the Miami area, “US Border Patrol”.
The migrants in police custody were transferred to the US border patrol post in West Palm Beach, to be questioned and treated for their repatriation to Haiti.
The boat involved in the migrant smuggling was seized. This new interception of migrants is under investigation by the border patrol and other agencies of the Department of Homeland Security.
This is the 4th interception of illegal Haitian migrants since the beginning of the year:
