Haiti - UN : The President of the UN General Assembly in Haiti

The President of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Dennis Francis, made his first official outing with a two-day visit to Haiti, which began yesterday, Monday, November 20, 2023.

Mr. Dennis Francis was received by Prime Minister Ariel Henry, together they took an overview of the situation in the country. During his stay, he will meet various interlocutors from government, political and civil society sectors.

“Here in Port-au-Prince to express my full solidarity with the Haitian people and convey the message that the international community has not forgotten them,” said Dennis Francis on his X account (former Twitter).

Mr. Dennis Francis expressed to the head of the Haitian government the solidarity of the international community with the Haitian people. He also assured him of the support of sister nations in his quest for security for the restoration of democratic institutions, stability and for the well-being of Haitians.

Dennis Francis (born 27 November 1956) is a diplomat from Trinidad and Tobago who has been his country’s permanent representative to the United Nations in New York since 2021. On 1st June 2023, he was elected President of the Assembly General of the United Nations at its seventy-eighth session, beginning its mandate on September 5, 2023.
