The Office for the Protection of the Citizen (OPC), an independent national institution for the promotion and protection of human rights, expresses “its indignation and its anger” following the killings in Delmas 32 and Christ Roi on the night of June 29, 2021 having cost the lives of more than fifteen people including the “feminist activist, Antoinette Duclaire and the brilliant journalist Diego Charles (Radio Télé Vision 2000)” https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34110-haiti-flash-carnage-in-delmas-32-at-least-15-dead-the-pnh-accuses-fantome-509.html
“The OPC recalls that the protection of the right to life is the direct responsibility of State authorities.” To this end, the Office asks the authorities concerned to urgently consider “effective measures capable of eradicating this climate of insecurity.”
The OPC encourages, in the name of the universal principle of human rights “the friendly countries of Haiti or the international community through the UN and the OAS to consider exceptional technical support to the National Police of Haiti (PNH), unable to respond effectively to the gangsterization of the country with a level of transnational crime.“
