iciHaiti – UNESCO : Towards the inscription of Rara on the «list of Intangible Cultural Heritage requiring urgent safeguard»
As part of the efforts made over the past ten years by the State and other stakeholders to safeguard the Rara, which was qualified by UNESCO in 2011 as “the first native tradition of Haiti” Caracoli and other Haitian actors engaged in the safeguarding of Rara, announces that the technical file for the inscription of Rara of Haiti on the “list of the Intangible cultural heritage requiring an urgent safeguard” of UNESCO is now ready.
In parallel with these efforts, the Ministry of Culture has undertaken several actions. In 2004, for example, he encouraged the founding of the Union des Raras de Léogâne (URAL), which unites the thirty-two bands of the region and acts as an intermediary with the State and local authorities.

For its part, Ref-culture, a cultural space launched on April 26, 2013, included this practice in school books devoted to Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Finally, Caracoli, which supervises the Follow Jah walkinghttps://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24698-haiti-culture-2nd-european-tour-of-the-walking-band-follow-jah.html for over ten years, has designed and implemented several activities, including an educational workshop on rara music with the Follow Jah walking band, presented regularly in schools in Haiti and abroad, a weekly workshop of rara musical practice for children of the Berthé neighborhood (since 2016)
